Don't Be Tricked. Watch this video.

This is a bittersweet, beautiful video made by a student.

After a While
(You Learn)

© Veronica A. Shoffstall 1971

After a while you learn the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning,
and company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses are not contracts,
and present's aren’t promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead...
With the grace of a woman,
not the grief of a child.
And you learn
To build all your roads on today,
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn that even sunshine burns
if you get too much…
So, you plant your own garden,
and decorate your own soul...
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure…
you really are strong,
you really do have worth.
And you learn, and you learn…
with every goodbye,

You Learn…

STEUBENVILLE WAS NO SURPRISE

By Wendy Murphy JD New England Law|Boston
Gail Dines, PhD Wheelock College Boston

March 30, 2013

excerpt:
How could two average all-American teenage football players from
small-town Ohio think nothing of sexually brutalizing an unconscious 16
year-old girl, and why did a dozen other teens encourage the
perpetrators, or take pictures and videos of the scene and share the
images with friends -- for fun!?

We think the answer is obvious.

Like most teens, they know “rape” is wrong but they have a distorted
view of what constitutes rape because they live in a society where most
boys learn about “sex” from a culture saturated with images of women
being degraded for male pleasure.

Mainstream heterosexual porn, for example, almost always involves men
behaving abusively toward women, yet the images are not understood as
offensive, much less depicting rape, because the women appear to be
consenting. There is no “no” in porn, so when boys see images of
degrading sexual activity where the woman  is begging for more, they
get the message that sexually harmful behavior is not only acceptable
but enjoyable for all parties.

We know from a wealth of studies that the behavior boys see as the norm
in porn, music videos, etc., are internalized into their sexual
template.
And with today's technology, boys have near-constant access to images
that just a short while ago were hidden away in stores that wouldn’t
let them
through the door.

With porn and pop culture as their major form of sex education, boys
get a
distorted image of female agency and power. Female desire is a mere
reflection of male desire and everything that happens to the female
body is
acceptable, no matter how humiliating or painful.

Steubenville incidents occur a lot in the United States, not because
males are natural born rapists, but because they’re trained to think
and act like predators by industries that exploit and manipulate human
sexuality for profit.  This problem is made worse by entrenched rape
myths and structured inequality in law, expressed in federal and state
codes that
fail to treat violence against women as a Civil Rights harm, and offer
better legal
protection against theft crimes than crimes against women’s bodies.

As experts in the field who speak to thousands of young people every
year at high schools and colleges across the nation, we hear stories
like Steubenville all the time. The challenge for us as scholars,
feminists and mothers of sons is to educate young people to understand
the way American culture shapes their ideas about sexuality and
masculinity,
especially the powerful role mainstream porn plays in cementing a
sexist mindset.

It’s very difficult to combat embedded social norms about sex, not only
because the topic isn’t comfortable for some people to discuss, but
also because we’ve become so desensitized to sexualized violence, we
barely see it as problematic.

We think nothing of hearing a defense attorney argue in a rape case
that a victim’s bruises and vaginal injuries are “consistent” with
consent. Fifteen years ago, such a defense strategy would have been
laughable. Today, it’s a winner.

Recent studies offer an explanation for why this may be happening.
Researchers in 2010 examined scenes from 50 of the “top-rented” porn
movies and found that over 88% included both physical and verbal abuse
in the form of hitting, physical aggression and gagging. Half the films
involved the use of sexist slurs such as “bitch” and “slut.”

Incidents like Steubenville will continue to occur with increasing
frequency so long as our children are raised in a country where the
sexualized disrespect of women is widely accepted as normal, and images
of violent sex are accessible 24 hours a day, with the tap of an
impressionable young finger.

We need a public health approach to this epidemic, alongside new laws
and stronger public opposition to the promulgation of images that
eroticize violence,
not as a matter of censorship but rather, as a commitment to women's
true equality.

The rape of Petty Officer 2nd Class Rebecca Blumer

The first thing Petty Officer 2nd Class Rebecca Blumer realized upon waking was that she was freezing cold and naked. The second thing was that her body ached all over. Blumer groggily scanned the unfamiliar room for clues. She saw a concrete floor splotched with vomit, a metal door and a window onto a hallway, where a woman in an orange jumpsuit was sweeping.
"Where am I?" Blumer called hoarsely.
"Richmond County jail," the inmate told her.
Blumer shivered. "I need to see a doctor," she whispered.
The woman nodded. "You've been screaming that all night."
Blumer sat back in shock. She was a normally cheerful 23-year-old Navy intelligence analyst stationed at Fort Gordon, a vast Army base of 15,000 military employees in Augusta, Georgia. Blumer, whose job was to sift through top-secret data, was part of a thousand-member naval unit. The night before, February 12th, 2010, she and some friends had gone to a bar not far from base for a couple of beers. Three Army guys – one with light hair, the other two dark-haired – had sent Blumer a shot of Jägermeister, a drink she didn't care much for but had downed anyway. The light-haired man had rounded the bar to talk to her. The last thing Blumer remembered was being overwhelmed by a dizzy, sluggish feeling, her limbs and head too heavy to lift, the noises in the bar rising up and caving in on her. Only later would Blumer find out the rest: that at 1:40 a.m., police had noticed her driving with her headlights off. That she'd barely been able to stand upright during her field sobriety test, but when placed under arrest she'd gone berserk, trying to break free of the police car and screaming incoherently. In jail, she'd yelled for a doctor and fought with the cops so wildly that she'd been hosed down in an effort to quiet her. Now, crouching in her cell with a swollen jaw; bruises smudging her wrists, ankles and neck; her abdomen sore inside; and her lower back and buttocks afire with what felt like rug burn, it dawned on Blumer. She'd been roofied and raped.

GMO Foods and the separation of powers...

Well what do you think of this??

more and links here:  /Action-Alert-We-Have-1-Week

excerpt:

"...at the same time, government agencies like the FDA go to great lengths to cover up the potential health damage from genetically modified foods, and to keep the consumer in the dark about what they're really eating.  Remember, genetically engineered foods have been linked toobesity, cancer, liver failure, infertility and all sorts of other diseases (brief, must-watch videoshere and here).
Both destructive trends are about to get a lot worse within the next week " unless we stand up and say "NO!"
Specifically, a law has been snuck into the Agriculture Appropriations bill -- which will be approved by March 27th -- which would destroy the separation of powers by stripping courts of the power to challenge genetically modified foods.

How?
The "Monsanto Rider" (section 735) uses "farmer-friendly" happy talk, but is an iron-fisted ploy to allow GMO crops to be planted even if a court has ruled that planting them is illegal.
If the United States Department of Agriculture -- which suffered "regulatory capture" by the big food companies decades ago -- approves a genetically modified food without any testing, a court can enjoin (i.e. halt) production of that food until testing occurs.
Yet the Monsanto Rider would strip the courts of power, and would allow GMO crops to be planted and put in our food " no matter what a judge has ruled..."

Steubenville Rape Trial

San Francisco SFGATE says:
excerpt:

While courtroom media led by Nancy Grace dissect every sleazy revelation of the Jodi Arias murder case in Arizona, a trial that actually deserves the attention it is getting starts Wednesday in Steubenville, Ohio.

Activists from the online groups KnightSec and Anonymous protest the handling of the rape case at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Steubenville, Ohio, on Jan 5, 2013. (AP photo)
An overflow crowd of reporters from across the country is expected at the juvenile court trial of two Steubenville High School football players. They are accused of dragging a semi-conscious drunk girl from party to party last August and digitally penetrating her, while their friends posted photos and videos on social media and made crude jokes about her.
The case has taken on a socio-political dimension. Women’s advocates and online hackers say it has explosed a “rape culture” in which players in a football-crazy small town have been allowed to get away with almost anything. A Ms. Magazine blogger has demanded that Steubenville cancel its football season.
Conservative bloggers counter that a “digital lynch mob” of liberal American-culture haters has misrepresented the facts and defamed the town. Steubenville’s government has put up a websiteto defend itself against various charges, including the allegation that local officials tried to cover up the rapes.

No charges were filed against teenage witnesses for taking pornographic images of a minor or failing to report a felony, or against any adults who may have furnished alcohol to minors. Anonline petition with 85,000 signatures urges the prosecution of Steubenville grad Michael Nodianos, 18, who made an infamous 12-minute video joking about the rapes in graphic terms. Nodianos’ defenders counter that he didn’t actually witness anything and that there’s no law against talking like a drunken jerk. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says he will announce after the trial whether anyone else will be charged.
Steubenville, a town of 18,000 in economically depressed southeastern Ohio, is known mainly as the hometown of Dean Martin and for its nine-time state champion football team, the Big Red, which most recently won the title in 2006.
This image of the victim in the Steubenville rape case being carried by her wrists and ankles was posted on Instagram by a teenage witness and found by hackers.
The role of hackers associated with the groups Anonymous and Knight Sec has been controversial: They uncovered the Nodianos video and other social media evidence, but also have posted unverifiable rumors and leaked court documents that identify the victim, an honor-roll student and athlete at a neighboring high school. She was apparently the ex-girlfriend of the witness who took the Instagram photo shown at left and also made rude comments about her on Twitter.

Big Drug Bust in Manhattan: GHB (date rape drug)

"Manhattan man held on $500K bond after mega drug bust

Homeland Security, KBI also involved in investigation"

[[by the way--GHB was/is used by weightlifters who commonly use steroids to counterset some of the effects.
Since steroids surely are associated with significantly higher levels of certain unhealthy behaviors, I've wondered if law enforcement has used the weightlifting connection to trace this filthy rape assist substance. When i was in florida--a  vanity capital with a hair salon, nail shop, cosmetic/implant surgery clinic and gym on every corner--it was clear that men and women would do anything/ take any substance that would help them bulk up, trim down, cut up, or just workout hard.]]

story and more here

excerpt:

"A 35-year-old Manhattan man is being held in the Riley County Jail on a $500,000 bond after his arrest Thursday on a multitude of drug-related charges following an investigation that included the Department of Homeland Security.
...Jason Monroe Graham was arrested at 701 Diebler in Manhattan after what was described as an ongoing investigation into the distribution of illegal substances in Riley County.
Graham was booked into jail in connection with activities that included unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance; possession of GHB (commonly used as a date-rape drug), methamphetamine and marijuana with intent to distribute; possession of cocaine, and several other misdemeanor counts.
This investigation, on which the Kansas Bureau of Investigation also participated with local and federal officials, led to the seizure of approximately 2 pounds of GHB powder, nearly 3 gallons of liquids to produce GHB, 135 grams of marijuana, 3 grams of cocaine, and 107 grams of methamphetamine, a Riley County PD spokesman said..."
