The Best First Course is Hunger

Taliban War Against females: http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/6185.htm
Here are some beautiful photos sent to me by a former student. These are children in an afghan village.
They are holding gifts we sent them. (to thank us!) Only because time has passed and i doubt any taliban are reading this, do i feel ok in posting them. I post to make real their life!
Real children who live under threat and oppression each and every day. While my diamond shoes are too tight and i had to wait in line for a table at coco-bolos yesterday...
Please consider-- the girls would not be able to learn to read, write or fly a kite! under taliban rule.  (The boys would not be able to fly a kite either.) If you have not flown a kite lately, or had your female child read you a story, consider your blessings and get on with living fully.
I wish i could post all the stunningly beautiful faces she sent, so intelligent and sweet. Check my homepage, we will bury them there somewhere...

Actually, i took down the pics and put up just a few altered ones, so no one was recognizable. Maybe silly, but one never knows...

Guniea Fowl Trolling My Yard

A june morning is the only cool time for large birds to search my yard unmolested for food. This bird comes from a farm about a block away. shot (with a canon) (camera) through a cloudy window.  click pic to enlarge.

The Problem in Afghanistan: Native Folk Must Be Willing to Die For Freedom

All the public chat in this past decade about how to win wars and conflicts and counter insurgencies have avoided what seems to me to be the key problem: Are native countryfolk ready to Die for freedom-- FOR personal freedom or freedom FROM (taliban) (fascists) ("religious" extremists)?

(The Women are willing.
the women are dying for freedom)
Here is Problem One
everyone In the Know--reporters, military, cultural scientists-- mentions, without much discussion:
The taliban ARE coming back to kill anyone with an American made toy, a cell phone, a friend serving the New Government.
Al quaida IS going to kill you after the "occupation"  if during the "occupation" you cooperated with those who opposed them.
History shows this to be true--they WILL IN FACT COME BACK AND KILL YOU AFTER THE (american/britons/whoever) leave.
So-if as a native afghan, i (A) do not believe the taliban are truly gone, (for whatever reason, including that the Afghan Government will end up colluding with them)
and
(B) know that the taliban Will find out that my family cooperated with the americans or with Karzai -- then,
=
after the dust settles, my family Will be slaughtered.
We can take this threat as a given, when pondering the dilemma of the fathers and mothers of Afghanistan.
It is also a conundrum, as both A and B Will Happen only if everyone is so afraid of A and B that they do not cooperate.
If everyone did cooperate, the taliban would be gone and B will not come to pass.
So, what it boils down to is: Are the folk so tired of living with the threat of taliban, the unfairness and cruelty and sickness and mindbending psycotic freakish oppression of taliban, the dusty dry impoverished history of No Freedom, that it is time for uprising and teaching one's children that we will risk dying for the freedom of future generations-
or, at the moment
 Is Life
under any burden better than death.
So not only must the native folk trust that the taliban will not win this 'skirmish"- they must also trust that the current karzai government will not sell them out in the end.
[Good congo men, pay attention.]
(would you sacrifice your children?  "...we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor...") (Franklin, the oldest of the delegates, was reported to have responded to Hancock’s worried “We must be unanimous” with his breezy “Yes, we must indeed all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.” )

The women are willing. The women are being murdered.

United Nations, isn't it time for your tea service in a fancy hotel?

Recently a survey was conducted by the U.N. worldwide.
The question asked was, "Would you please give your opinion about the food shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a huge failure.
In Africa they did not know what 'food' meant.
In Western Europe, they did not know what 'shortage' meant.
In Eastern Europe they did not know what 'opinion' meant.
In South America they did not know what 'please' meant.
And in the U.S. they did not know what 'the rest of the world' meant.

please report the real news, media.

(Jagger/Richards) listen: She's like a rainbow

She comes in colors ev'rywhere; She combs her hair She's like a rainbow Coming, colors in the air everywhere She comes in colors

Coming, colors in the air Oh, everywhere She comes in colors

Have you seen her dressed in blue? See the sky in front of you And her face is like a sail Speck of white so fair and pale Have you seen a lady fairer? She comes in colors ev'rywhere; She combs her hair She's like a rainbow Coming, colors in the air everywhere She comes in colors Have you seen her all in gold? Like a queen in days of old She shoots colors all around Like a sunset going down Have you seen a lady fairer?

Bryan Ferry Dylanesque and Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues: New Music I Can't Stop ListeningTo:

My grandfather, God rest his soul,  had a collection of harmonicas that i need to break out and learn after hearing Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues. Even the folks at the fancy coffee drive though are happy to see me because they get a little of this song every morning. Dang Air Harmonica Players.

Sweetest Fridays at K-State; Jubilent Crowds Cause Mischief

Orientation of three weeks has come to completion!

Happy day. Good times.

Street Songs of Love: Fathers, sons, music, love, finding oneself with Alejanadro Escovedo

The Morning Edition on Friday (today) has a worth- listening- to (seven minutes) clip about a wonderful musician, son of a mariachi musician, once a punk rocker; Now Alejandro Escovedo shares some music and thoughts of love (what everyone is really looking for is love- alcohol, troubles get in the way of that...) and how it might feel to hear your father say he supports your endeavors... (2 of his brothers played with Santana).
Either click on the story from the link above or try this: here is the story link: http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=128081670&m=128101594

there is music to listen to at the bottom of the link.

Baby Grackles Are Seriously Scary

Good Times.
The Deepest BlueBlack Opalescent Glisten that is the Adult Grackle, is not yet upon the babies.
For the past two days I've had a small flock of  teenage grackles and some adults in the yard.
It was a treat
to see what their young were like.
here's a few pics from through my cloudy window: click pic to enlarge
