On Wednesday morning, CNN anchor Carol Costello made a shocking statement on air. She said that the Obama administration threatens the jobs of reporters who make the president look bad.

During a discussion about the firing of national security official Jofi Joseph, panelist Jason Johnson said, “The Obama administration is very thin-skinned.” Later in the panel, CNN contributor Will Cain said, “There’s a consistency in the Obama administration of going after people who embarrass the administration. But not those that cover for the administration.”

Anything Is Possible

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..
Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by
describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.
Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.
Days, weeks and months passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.
She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.
It faced a blank wall.
The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.
The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.
She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.'
Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.
'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present .'

The origin of this letter is unknown.

Lou Reed Part of the Endless Cycle

Bye Lou.

ENDLESS CYCLE 1989 The bias of the father runs on through the son And leaves him bothered and bewildered The drugs in his veins only cause him to spit At the face staring back in the mirror How can he tell a good act from the bad He can't even remember his name How can he do what needs to be done When he's a follower not a leader The sickness of the mother runs on through the girl Leaving her small and helpless Liquor files through her brain with the force of a gun Leaving her running in circles How can she tell a good act from the bad When she's flat on her back in her room How can she do what needs to be done When she's a coward and a bleeder The man if he marries will batter his child And have endless excuses The woman sadly will do much the same Thinking that it's right and it's proper Better than their mommy or their daddy did Better than the childhood they suffered The truth is they're happier when they're in pain In fact, that's why they got married

Bob Dylan -- North Country Blues

wimp.com:

young bob dylan silences the crowd

50 years ago, Bob Dylan silenced the crowd with his performance of "North Country Blues".

Come gather 'round friends And I'll tell you a tale Of when the red iron pits ran plenty But the cardboard filled windows And old men on the benches Tell you now that the whole town is empty. In the north end of town My own children are grown But I was raised on the other In the wee hours of youth May mother took sick And I was brought up by my brother.

The iron ore it poured As the years passed the door The drag lines an' the shovels they was a-hummin' 'Til one day my brother Failed to come home The same as my father before him. Well a long winter's wait From the window I watched My friends they couldn't have been kinder

And my schooling was cut As I quit in the spring To marry John Thomas, a miner.
Oh the years passed again And the givin' was good With the lunch bucket filled every season What with three babies born The work was cut down To a half a day's shift with no reason.
Then the shaft was soon shut And more work was cut And the fire in the air, it felt frozen
'Til a man come to speak And he said in one week That number eleven was closin'.
They say in the East They're payin' too high They say that your ore ain't worth diggin' That it's much cheaper down In the South American towns Where the miners work almost for nothin'.

So the mining gates locked And the red iron rotted And the room smelled heavy from drinkin' Where the sad silent song Made the hour twice as long As I waited for the sun to go sinking. I lived by the window As he talked to himself The silence of tongues it was building Then one morning's wake The bed it was bare And I's left alone with three children. The summer is gone The ground's turning cold The stores one by one they're a-foldin' My children will go As soon they grow For there ain't nothin' here now to hold them.

Aint No Companion Like A Blue-Eyed Merle

Led Zeppelin

Bron Y aur Stomp

I caught you smiling at me,
That's the way it should be,
Like a leaf is to a tree, so fine.

Ah all the good times we had,
I sang love songs so glad
Always smiling, never sad, so fine.

*As we walk down the country lanes,
I'll be singing a song, hear me calling your name,
Hear the wind within the trees,
Tellin’ Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

Well if the sun shines so bright,
Or on our way it's darkest night
The road we choose is always right, so fine.
How can your love be so strong
When so many loves go wrong
Will our love go on and on and on and on and on and on?

*As we walk down the country lanes,
I'll be singing a song, hear me calling your name,
Hear the wind within the trees,
Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

My, my la de la come on down it ain’t too far,
Tell your friends all around the world,
Ain't no companion like a blue eyed merle.
Come on now well let me tell you,
What you're missing, missing, 'round them brick walls.

So of one thing I am sure,
It's a friendship so pure,
Angels singing all around my door, so fine.

Yeah, ain't but one thing to do
Spend my natural life with you,
You're the finest dog I knew, so fine.

When you're old and your eyes are dim,
There ain't no old Shep gonna happen again,
We'll still go walking down country lanes
I'll sing the same old songs
Hear me callin your name.
