Our County Attorney here once said [when asked about winning a case]
he did not celebrate after a hard horrible trial.
They violent offender had just earned himself a few dozen years in jail.
He answered that all sides were hurting, families involved throughout were in pain; he found little to celebrate.
His answer touched me and changed me-- (letter to the editor excerpt below)
I was reminded of this when i recently saw little children and parents and many folks giddily laughing and cheering after the police announced "Victory" in the So Called "boston marathon bombing" incidents...
( er, um, you might want to look into some of the recent alternative media around this incident...)
this is the culture of violence?
violence begets violence?
when we find it "natural" to celebrate Winning in the violence game?
"...A young man was sentenced to many decades in prison this
past week; he will be an old man when he is finished with his legal payment.
The judge in the case was Judge David L. Stutzman; the prosecuting attorney
was our own County Attorney, Barry Wilkerson.
The man,
who was found guilty of several violent crimes by two different juries, had
committed such vile and hurtful acts against other humans that the sentence
does not seem too long. Perhaps a lifetime imprisoned will be his salvation. It
was very sad to see him standing before the Court. I felt a cold emptiness when
he did not use his time to speak to the Court by showing a sliver of sorrow, of
realization, of humility at his grotesque falling away from the human family.
During the
course of the sentencing phase, Barry Wilkerson pointed out that one of the
three rapes T.H. was charged with might not even be prosecuted, as the young
victim, who was just a girl, was still working at recovery two years later.
I would like to thank
both Barry Wilkerson and Judge Stutzman for the integrity shown in the
sentencing.
I would also like to take this
moment to remind the community that sexual assault crimes—whether, as
in this week’s case, the crime was committed after striking a woman with a
vehicle and hitting her on the head before assaulting her, or tricking someone
online into a fake friendship and a meeting in person before committing a rape,
or whether, as is typical in campuses across the country, the victims is
targeted while on a date or at a party,—sexual assault crimes take a terrible
toll on the criminal’s victims. Most rapes, 80-90%, are committed by someone
known to the victim. The FBI tells us that only a small percentage of rapes are
reported to the police. If someone tells you they were assaulted, believe them
and support them. Support the judges and attorneys who work to put those who
act violently where they can no longer hurt others.

Of course feeding children violence has affected them.
The pussyfooting around it by the primary servers-- the media whores in all their forms-- is a sad sad joke.
It is far beyond the saturation of games, music and movies.
Adults showing children how to be violent, while sexualizing them, appears to be the national --Global-- pasttime.
Unless of course you live in a country where trying to stay alive while looking for firewood and water is your main concern...
