PBS Fall Arts Festival: Cameron Crowe’s “Pearl Jam Twenty” from Seattle
Oh Man. You just gotta watch this. No whining about "not really caring for pearl jam" - this is about how the layers of rock n roll continue to grow; how each generation (if a generation is 5 years) of musicians has the whole history behind them; and how each new layer of rock folk dance punk grunge guitar music will inescapably incorporate the music that came before it.
Mentioned in the documentary is that the musicians in seattle "stayed inside a lot"-- (rain) therefore heard ALL the music, the Blues, Jazz, Rock, Folk, Dance, etc. a lot.
I have more to say about this special but i want to post while it is still showing and say, watch it!! Turn it up.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking tonight before i saw your post.... that Ironically..while i was listening to Pearl Jam in 1990-93 and several others that a genre and time of truely Inspired music... there was...
ANOTHER Band: called Rage Against The Machine was making an album in(1992) that speaks to all things and in its own way informs us of Today!--
in as much as we who love these fine tunes like PJ- TEN and others made- RATM music at that time passed me by-
i did not have my ears or mind open to it and i guess I did not hear it on KMKF then-
but now as we have rolled through the most dangerous political happening of our lives- (2001-2008) and beyond... RATM is now new to me and the words are in a way as powerful as the fine musical feast Pearl Jam and others feed us.
I think out of the several songs i listened to yesterday This quote among others was the sign of the times and my awakening to it- wether I fear my Governor of this State and can protest is another matter- because i DO FEAR Him and his cronies! which makes this awaking all the more painful..is my fear to speak up...
a line from this song below--
"If we don't take action now
We settle for nothing later"
here is one off the 1992 Album...
THX Good Dog
-RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE LYRICS 1992-
"Settle For Nothing"
A jail cell is freedom from the pain in my home
Hatred passed on, passed on and passed on
A world of violent rage
But it's one that I can recognize
Having never seen the colour of my father's eyes
Yes, I dwell in hell, but it's a hell that I can grip
I tried to grip my family
But I slipped
To escape from the pain in an existence mundane
I gotta 9, a sign, a set and now I gotta name
Read my writing on the wall
No-one's here to catch me when I fall
Death is on my side....suicide!
Caught between my culture and the system....genocide!
Read my writing on the wall
No-one's here to catch me when I fall
If ignorance is bliss, then knock the smile off my face
Yeah!
If we don't take action now
We settle for nothing later
Settle for nothing now
And we'll settle for nothing later
If we don't take action now
We settle for nothing later
We'll settle for nothing now
And we'll settle for nothing later
If we don't take action now
We'll settle for nothing later
We settle for nothing now
And we'll settle for nothing later
If we don't take action now
We settle for nothing later
We'll settle for nothing now
And we'll settle for nothing later
----------------------------------
last thought.....
"Some speak the sounds
But speak in silent voices
Like radio is silent
Though it fills the air with noises
Its transmissions bring submission
As ya mold to the unreal"
-----------RATM 1992
---------
"Time has come to pay...
Know your enemy!
Come on!
Yes I know my enemies
They're the teachers who taught me to fight me
Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission
Ignorance, hypocrisy, brutality, the elite
All of which are American dreams....
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams...."
Yah, we arealways trying to break out of one prison into another, are we not? Really after all the noises are quited, and illusions and veils lifted, who is waiting there?
